Lucie Belle Blanche David (DE/FR)
is a French-German artist and artistic researcher based between Berlin and Vienna. She studied French-German Intercultural Studies (History) in Berlin and at the Sorbonne in Paris, and completed her MA in Art & Science at the University of Applied Arts (Angewandte) in Vienna, where she also studied in the ceramics workshop.
Her practice draws on socio-political contexts, craftsmanship, and pop culture, with ceramics being one of her main media. Through clay and applied arts, she develops mixed-media sculptures and installations that explore materiality, memory, and perception, combining playfulness with critical reflection. Her sculptural process, closely aligned with the notion of assemblage, allows the works to evolve organically and is informed by research methods from the historical sciences.
David is among the artists invited to contribute artistic research to the FWF PEEK project Broken Collection (Vienna), which investigates materiality and the historicity of a broken porcelain collection. She is currently invited for six month as a resident artist at Ceramic Kingdom Berlin. She has exhibited at institutions including Künstlerhaus Wien, among others, and collaborated with the fashion label DFM Hamburg. Alongside her studio practice, she has taught glazing and ceramics at Tonhalle Vienna. Growing up between Germany and France, David developed a strong awareness of cultural divergences and contrasting political narratives, which continues to inform her interest in cross-cultural exchange and the temporal dimensions of objects.
